Joshua Jih Pan has been named as a winner of this year’s National Award for Arts, the highest honor awarded to artists in Taiwan. The announcement was made on December 15th, by the National Culture and Arts Foundation.
Established in 1997, the award recognizes outstanding artists for their lifetime achievements in various artistic fields, including architecture, literature, fine art, filmmaking, theater, dance and music.This year’s rigorous selection process lasted six months to finalize five award winners out of ninety-seven candidates.
Per the NCAF jury citation: “Mr. Pan’s design pursues a balance between form and function with a refined aesthetics that reflects an abiding sensitivity towards technology, environment, public and society. His diverse portfolio of work maintains a continuous emphasis on sustainability, and incorporates social, historical and environmental concerns to create architecture that elevates the humanistic value.”
