Phase I, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.
Located in the High Technology Park in the Pudong New Zone of Shanghai City, this project is the first wafer fab planned, designed and built in the Park. The work is scheduled to be completed in three phases, Phase I includes a Headquarters Building, an Administration Building, two 8 inch Wafer Fabs, plus supporting and auxiliary plants.
The master plan is based on a new design concept, with its primary concern focused on life and work in the Park rather than the fab buildings. Site planning including building arrangement and mass composotion, provision of green space and separation of vehecular and pedestrian traffic, all aims at producing a human scaled, pleasant and comfortable living and working environment.
In Phase I, the Administration Building is centrally located and connects to the various production fabs around it, with an elegant Staff Dining Hall and Loumge on the 4th floor. A curved glass curtain wall above the main entrance extends to the 4th floor and converts to a square shape at the 5th floor, as a metaphor for wafer production which begins in circular shapes and finishes as square wafers, while also reminiscent of the ancient Chinese concept of the “Square Earth and Round Heaven".
