Student Activity Center, National Chiao Tung University
Located at the junction of the new and old campuses in accordance with the master plan which we prepared for the University in 1988, this building is intended as a major landmark. As the site already contains a one-story student dining room which may not be demolished, the new building at ground level is positioned on either side of it and traverses it with a trussed structure above, encompassing and making it part of the new Activity Center. The new building contains a 350-seat concert hall and an experimental theater, a 320-seat open-air amphitheater, 48 student club offices, and various public amenities, including a lounge, coffee shop, general store, hair salons, exhibition galleries, etc. The main entrance leading to the lobby and concert hall is located near the university’s perimeter road, while a secondary entrance faces the plaza and garden on the inner side of the campus. The five-story building with basement has a total floor area of 115,000 sq.m., a construction cost of NT$20,600,000 and was completed in 1992.
